VICE Media is offering a limited number of FREE spots for freelance journalists to participate in one of their upcoming in-house Media Safety Training (aka Hostile Environments and First aid Training or HEFAT) in London, on November 16-18.

VICE Media's HEFAT course covers essential safety aspects for field journalists, including situational awareness, first aid techniques and kit,  identity & gender dynamics safety awareness, mental well-being/resiliency & psychological preparedness, risk assessment & operational planning for high risk activities, infosec planning and awareness, authority management & de-escalation, protests/riots/hostile crowds, reaction to an incident, field & protective kit training, and legal risk & rights.

Find below the ACOS Alliance's criteria eligibility for this opportunity:
-You must have full Covid-19 vaccination
-You must be a professional field freelance journalist, photojournalist or documentary maker
-Your work exposes you to threats and risks
-Commitment to complete the course

Selected applicants will participate along VICE Media staff journalists and editors. The course is taking place face to face in Wapping, London. Participants are expected to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements and cover their own expenses. The sessions run from 8.30am to 4.30pm approximately. The ACOS Alliance (A Culture of Safety Alliance)  will select participants and may be able to contribute towards travel expenses for selected freelance participants. Completing this form does not guarantee a bursary or a spot in one of the courses.
